Parkwood is aptly named, with its close proximity to Pioneer Park, Deane’s Children Park (also known as Dragon Park), Island Crest Park and 53rd Place Open Space. Both Parkwood and Mercer Firs are planned communities featuring decent territorial views, thanks to the greenbelts that border three sides of the neighborhoods.
Due to the traditional house styles on mostly flat lots, adjacent to parks and near to Island Park Elementary, Parkwood and Mercer Firs are neighborhoods which appeal to families with younger children.
Something to keep in mind when looking at homes in these two neighborhoods, the language set forth by the deeds for the homes join the residents by legal covenants and restrictions. When community features like street lighting and open space maintenance need to be funded, the residents must decide together how to pay for these improvements, usually discussed at formal homeowner meetings held annually.
